Kreative Blogger Award

Hi everybody!

I’m really excited to tell you that I was lucky enough to be nominated for the Kreative Blogger Award by a most talented and creative paper crafter – Katie Shafer! I have much to tell you about Katie, all on my next post which will be dedicated to her work.

As for this fun blogger award, it is very much like the “Stylish” awards I posted not long ago. It is so great to know that there are people, far away from here, who read my blog and like my work! It makes blogging (and blogging in English – which isn’t my native tongue) really worthwhile!

So, what do I have to do now that I have been nominated? It’s quite simple:

1. A proper mention of the awesome blogger who gave me the award – the lovely Katie Shafer of Scissors, Glue & Paper. Thanks dear Katie!
2. Share 7 interesting facts with my readers.
3. Nominate 7 other bloggers, with their links, and let them know about it!

First, I’d have to dig deep for some facts that I’ve never shared before… Hmmm… Shall we begin?

1) I have a few super-secret ideas for an originally illustrated pop-up book. If ever I do get to work on it, you’ll be the first to know! 😉
2) I LOVE dancing. I can be the first and last person on the floor at my friends’ wedding parties, and would never consider it exercise (yack!).
3) In high school I took theater and literature as my major subjects. I loved preforming on stage and really miss it today.
4) Although I love color and use it every day in my work, I don’t really have a particular favorite one. It usually changes with time, season and mood. The one color I’ve always loved is green. It’s a tricky color to use in interior design or even as a fashion choice (it can look childish, toxic or ill), but when you get the right undertone – it’s just perfect.
5) At any given time I have at least 3 crafty projects that I’ve started but failed to finish.
6) I traveled Asia many years ago, right after I was released from army duty (it’s very common here in Israel, both the whole army thing and the travelling right after…). On this long trip I visited Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Nepal. I’ve been to so many interesting and beautiful places since, yet this trip seems to have left a significant mark on me, and I treasure it to this day.
7) Ari, my beloved husband, is from Uruguay. Therefore, one of my greater goals for this year is to learn a bit of Spanish! 🙂

Now that you know a few more facts about me, it’s time to “pass the torch” and declare my own choices for the Kreative Blogger award! I’ve decided to nominate some blogs I never mentioned here before, because I love the idea of us getting to know new people throughout the web!

* The Red Pepper Quilts blog-  an inspiring and informative blog about quilting. I love quilts, mostly the ones with a cool, modern take. Rita, the author of the blog, has great talent both for sewing and for telling all about it.
* The Delighted Momma blog is not really a craft blog – the author Lindsay is an aesthetician and her blog is packed with helpful (and healthy!) beauty DIYs, along with some craft ideas, accessory making  tips and some good-for-you recipes.
* The next blog is an Israeli one, which is written in English for all of you to enjoy – Scrappin’ it is updated frequently by Einat, the author, with tons of ideas, tutorials and pictures of her (massive!) collection of projects.
* This blog is so pretty and so mouth-watering… Sugar and Charm is all about entertaining and life style, with some baked goods on top! Eden and her husband Zan make sure every post is well photographed, stylish and fun.
*Le Frufru is an Italian blog oozing with style, where the author Chiara, a wedding planner, offers tips and tricks for amazing DIY celebrations.
* A Typical Type A is a lovely blog that updates me on a daily basis about beautiful design delights. Alicia the author makes sure to expose her readers to promising artists and artworks,  mainly inspiring graphic design, typography prints and illustrations.
* Last but not least – another Israeli blog, this time in Hebrew (but in my opinion- totally worth a google-translate!)- It’s Came from love (my own free translation of the Hebrew title). Meital, the author, is a very creative scrappbooker, with a huge collection and excellent tutorials – no need to know Hebrew to enjoy it all!

Wow, that was a long one. Hope you have a wicked week!

A Double Birthday!

Exactly two years ago I published my first post here on the Little Green Box blog. Exactly 31 years ago I was born. This is a double birthday!

On this festive occasion I would like to thank all my readers around the world. I appreciate every single one of you, whether you’re following the blog regularly or just popping to say “Hi!” once in a while. Your visits here on the little green box, your supportive comments and emails and your pins on Pinterest – it all makes me so happy! You guys give me the encouragement to create, the motivation to try new things and the courage to share it with the world. I’ve learned so much in the past two years, and I have you all to thank.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Now, how about some candy for my awesome readers?

As it is quite customary to have some sort of Blog Candy on a blog’s birthday, I would like to offer this original gift from me:

I will make you a personal one-of-a-kind pop up card, inspired by your ideas!

So, what do you need to do to take part in this blog candy? So easy, it’s piece of cake (Yes, a pun…):

1. Write down a comment to this post, telling me about a fun or special birthday you had! [Comments will be accepted until Saturday 31st.]
2. Wait for the raffle next Sunday, April 1st 🙂

The winner should send me an image of any sort (an artwork? a travelling photo? a graphic pattern?…), and I will create a unique pop-up inspired by that image.

I wish you, and myself, a creative year, with more ideas and fewer things to hold you back. I wish for a year of innovation and many new friends, as supportive and as wonderful as you guys.

Kisses,

ShirA

PS – Check out what my husband bought for my birthday!!! I’m crazy in love! (and with my husband as well)

Happy Purim!!!

As you can see, I’ve decided to become a hungry vampire this Pourim. I love it!!! Some of it I made myself, but mostly I adjusted, decorated and mixed-and-matched some old clothes.

Have a happy, colorful holiday!

A Serious Dilemma

“Purim”, my favorite holiday in the world, is coming up soon. For those of you who don’t know, “Purim” is the Jewish holiday that’s probably the closest to Halloween. On Purim’s week I try to go to as many costume parties as I can, always making sure to have a super cool, crafty, original outfit! I’m not sure if it’s the dressing-up, the DIY or the “feel free to carry enormous fake weapons” that makes this holiday my favorite. I guess it’s simply the joyful atmosphere, having grown up people fooling around in the streets, letting their imagination go wild.

Now, I usually have an idea for a costume at least 6 months in advance, so I can work on it as long as I need… The tradition for the past ten years includes my sister and I spending days at my parents’ house, turning the basement into a Purim sweatshop (and my mom into a living sewing-machine…). The result – a costume that is completely hand made, unique and awesome!

Here are some examples of our costumes from the past few years:

In 2007 Ari and I were Kong-Fu fighters! I drew dragons on our clothes and added lots of black and red accessories.

2008 was the year of the Vikings (I LOVED this costume!). I dyed some fabrics, sew all our clothes, used hot-glue gun on everything and- voila! The most vicious warriors of the western world! Some of the “metal” pieces are made of Fimo, colored in gold.

In 2009 we were space invaders. It was really cool! Our suits were black and silver, we had space weapons (very useful against the human race) and acid green accents all over. I made a cute little space-pet as a hairpiece.

2010 was the era of the Aztecs. I made our outfits from dyed fabric and fake suede, the head pieces from leather leftovers and the jewelery from Fimo (drawn on with acrylic paint, to imitate the vanes of the turquoise stone…). The fake tattoos I drew on our arms lasted for a week and looked real good!

Now- the big dilemma – what shall I do this year?!?! I’ve been asking myself this question since October… HELP! If you have any brilliant ideas, please feel free to comment 🙂

India inspiration

These past two and a half weeks were magical. The views we’ve crossed on our trip from Leh, Ladakh, at the far north of India, down to Manali and Prabati valley, were unbelievably breath taking. I’m travelling with my good friend Tamar, sadly leaving my beloved newly-wed husband at home… 😦

I try not to spend my days at the internet cafes but rather outside, in the streets, the shops and the restaurants. That’s why you won’t be hearing from me on this blog much for the next few weeks. When I come back, with lovely fabrics and papers, full of Indian inspiration- you will be rewarded for your patience!

The picture below shows a stand of hand-carved wooden stamps from Leh. It was a hard choice, I can tell you that…

All the best!
